Achar Kumar ‘Billy’ Burman- Gallery exhibition
Achar Kumar Burman has painted extensively since a young age. Wherever he travels he records the world around him in his sensitive watercolour paintings which capture the mood whether it be the dramatic coasts of Cornwall, New Zealand and Jamaica or the dizzy peaks of the Himalayas in India.
Achar is, however, continually drawn to the colours and subtleties of the West Penwith peninsula in Cornwall, where he lives, an area which has fascinated artists for centuries. His approach builds on the local tradition but brings to bear the influences of ancient eastern artistic practice. He has been strongly influenced by both the Chinese master Hui Pa Shih of the Shanghai School of Painting and Frederick Franks, author of ‘The Zen of Seeing.’ Achar’s landscapes and seascapes are always painted outdoors – en plein air – capturing the changing light and moving colour in nature.
Achar Kumar Burman has two teenage children and has lived and worked in Penzance, Newlyn and St Ives, Cornwall for the past 25 years.
Extracts from Reviews:
“Watercolour paintings in a free style, all have been executed with a wonderful bold, yet spontaneous, delicate touch.” – Western Morning News.
“His work clearly shows the confidence associated with a master. An artist who works with western paints but uses Chinese and Japanese brushes, creating a quick but extremely satisfying impressions of flora……his flower paintings are organic, charged with a sense of the changing seasons, at once delicate and delightful, beautifully balanced they are excellent examples of the Genre – 21st century flower painting at its very best.” - The Cornishman newspaper.
