Sublime Design at Trereife Park

The annual Cornwall Design Fair in association with Hidden Art held at Trereife Park over the weekend was a resounding success. The weather didn’t deter people from coming along on Saturday and the sun shone bringing in a record audience on Sunday.

Designer makers from across the country attended the Fair exhibiting excellent work including furniture, ceramics, textiles, glassware, interior and exterior products, fashion and jewellery.

Remon Jephcott, new to the Design Fair was awarded the prestigious Guild of Ten prize for innovation in design and making. Exhibiting her ‘Fruits of Evil’ series which is a twist on the Victorian 5 o’clock tea.

Dieneke Ferguson from Hidden Art traveled down from London to attend the Fair and was very pleased with the event. There was a great mixture of entertainment from music to story telling by John Brolley in front of the house. Delicious food was provided by the Poets Café and various caterers; including Chinese, Filipino and Paellas, as well as crepes and burgers.

Lucy Jane Foakes who was the winner of The Business Design Centre New Designers Award, was invited to exhibit at the Design Fair and although she said she had found it all a bit of a rush, she also found it all incredibly exciting and everyone very friendly. She was very impressed with the range of work. Lucy said, “the house is very beautiful and such a lovely venue to hold such an event”. This was reiterated by Samme Charlesworth, Rose Karensa, Lizzie Houghton and Nic Harrison who were all very impressed with the standard of work being exhibited along with the warm and friendly atmosphere by everyone involved.

The gallery at Trereife was busy with the new exhibition from ‘5 from St Ives’, Anthony Frost, Bob Devereux, Colin Freebury, Russell Hedges and Stephen Prince. The gallery also played host to the Precious Lives Appeal where some of Cornwall’s most prestigious artists, Rose Hilton, Ken Howard, Kurt Jackson, Bryan Pearce and Breon O’Casey

came together to produce a collection of cards to be sold to help raise funds to build the children’s hospice. Over a third of the total produced was sold during the weekend. This will certainly help to boost the much needed funds!

Thank you to all involved and we look forward to seeing everyone at the Cornwall Design Fair 2011.
