Lived-in landscapes
Tom Henderson Smith shares his facination with all those aspects of Cornwall’s landscape that suggest human presence. From field patterns to ancient sites, from clusters of buildings to well worn paths, the inspiration for this St Just artist’s new collection of paintings and drawings is wide ranging. A tragic and haunting image from the history of tin and copper mining also finds a place. Another lived-in aspect of these paintings and drawings is the evidence that they show of how the artist has lingered over colour mixtures, paint layering, brush and finger marks. This has coaxed a feeling of life into these pieces, bringing a lived-in quality to them which, in it’s vividness, could be unique to the hand-made image. Open 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. From 29th May-10th June 2010. See all the work online at www.hendersonsmith.co.uk.
