Trereife Easter Food and Craft Fair- 3rd-5th April 2010

Open 10am - 5pm

Trereife House is looking forward to hosting a unique Easter Bank Holiday Food and Craft Fair. Cookery demonstrations by local chefs, fascinating tours of Trereife House, a delectable selection of locally produced food and drink, exquisite art and crafts to browse and buy, children’s entertainment and live music performances… these are just a handful of the attractions to be found at Trereife’s Easter Fair on Saturday 3rd to Monday 5th April. This event follows the huge success of last year’s Design Fair in association with Hidden Art and the Fine Food and Craft Fairs held throughout the year.

The weekend kicks off at this historic Queene Anne manor house and its spectacular grounds on Saturday 3rd April with a series of cookery demonstrations and a programme of entertainment for young and old, as well as the opening of an exhibition by Romi Behrens and Alice Mumford in Trereife’s Gallery. Over the course of the weekend, visitors may browse quality art and craft from Cornish designer-makers, including work from Carol Scott of Viscar Pottery and Laura Cracknell of Making Waves Jewellery. A wide range of other local businesses will also be on show such as Rosemary’s Remedies, and organic skincare company and unusual plants and herbs from Trewidden Nursery near Penzance. Fairs at Trereife have developed a reputation for attracting some of the best local food suppliers, this is set to continue this year with 20 exhibitors such as Worthy Farm Cheeses, and new comers, Cornish Cuisine and Cornish County Meats. For those that are keen on a little tipple, The Atlantic Beer Company and Tregonebris and Polgoon Wines will be on hand to tickle your taste buds. This fine selection makes it the perfect opportunity to stock up on an array of fine food and drinks for the spring season.

One of the exciting new features this year includes the food demonstration marquee, hosting a fully equipped kitchen and demonstrations throughout the weekend. Well known local chefs, such as Sanjay Kumar, Head Chef from the Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth will be preparing dishes from the produce on display by the food exhibitors. Using only the finest of local produce these chefs will show that Cornish is certainly best and will surely provide a culinary inspiration for your spring kitchen table.

Throughout the Fair you will find a variety of home-made refreshments including cakes, crepes, soups, and local meat pasties, plus locally made ice-cream, and fruit juice squeezed as you watch to tempt your taste buds. Remember to bring your picnic blanket, or if you prefer, take a seat in Trereife’s Poet’s Cafe. And should the weather prove temperamental, rest assured that the event will be undercover. Should you fancy a diversion from the craft buying and nibbles, Tim Le Grice will be conducting tours of his historic home, allowing visitors to absorb Trereife’s extensive history which dates back to the original dwelling of 1201.

On the entertainment side, Trereife Fair will be laying on a programme of live acoustic music, a series of Metal Forgery demonstrations, as well as a chance to test your pottery skills by ‘throwing your own pot’. Traditional fairground attractions will ensure there’s plenty to occupy younger visitors. One of the highlights, and a big success from last year, is the traditional Grand Easter Egg Hunt. With prizes for all and magical clues hidden in the woods, this is sure to be a real treat! Complete with a horse drawn carriage ride taking you from the car park along the tree lined drive right up to the House, this event is set to be a joy for the senses for both the young and the young at heart.

Adult £3, Child £2, under 5’s free. Family ticket £8 (2 adults and 3 children).

We have been trying to contact you regarding the Easter fair,(cant get through on phone), we are a new catering company based in Newlyn making Cornish fish dishes with a Japanese twist, ie, sushi sashimi, fish tempura, salads etc (only made from sustainable fish caught locally in our waters). We have a small catering trailer serving portions of the above mentioned. We realise its a bit late, but do you have any space available? We would love the opportunity of launching our new business at your wonderful fair.
Please could you call either Tiggy on
07951725389 or Kay on 07813627237 ASAP.

What happened to the horsedrawn carriage on Easter Sunday?
It was impossible to get anything at the cafe as there was not enough seating and many people were just giving up including while waiting for table service.

We are sorry about your experience in the cafe. We understand that the wait for food was too long and we will rectify it at the next event.
